Melbourne Art Class welcomes one of Australia’s most extraordinary abstract artists – David Palliser – to conduct a new Term-based course solely dedicated to abstract studio art practice.
This course mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in acrylics.
The course will explore the following:
- Colour using collage and paint mixing
- Positive and negative space as the starting point for an image
- Intuition, gesture and risk
In these classes you have the freedom to work on your own projects and be given tuition from an experienced teacher and professional abstract artist.
We welcome all skill levels in this class – from complete beginners, or focused artists pursuing a project. For beginners, David will initially use a more structured approach that covers the fundamentals of abstraction.
David has had over twenty solo exhibitions and his work has been acquired by collections such as the Australian National Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank, and Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery.
David has participated in numerous exhibitions, including Imagine, Heide Museum of Modern Art, 2006 and Melbourne Now, National Gallery of Victoria, 2013. David has also attended residencies at Leipzig in 2015 and Berlin in 2016.

Feedback from our Abstraction students
“The classes were well structured and David was able to give us personalized feedback and follow up. He is such a talented painter and he was encouraging us to try different things and pushing toward alternative directions to explore concepts.”
