Level: Intermediate/ Advanced (some painting or drawing experience required/ or a previous Intro to Painting or Studio Art course completion)

Acclaimed artist Sam Leach, has been at the forefront of the investigation and discussion of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and art practice. He was guest lecturer for the 2024 National Gallery of Victoria Annual Lecture, titled, ARTificial: The Use of AI in Art. As a recipient of both the Archibald Prize and Wynne Prize, Sam has a long established reputation in the visual arts industry. Sam’s entire recent oeuvre has been an investigation of the interaction of AI and his own painting practice.

This short course is designed to give you access to Sam experience with AI, and assist you to explore the interaction of your own practice with AI – to the degree that you are comfortable. Sam is sensitive to the challenges and the ethical nuances that appear in addressing AI and art practice. He is therefore well placed to support you in understanding this most recent development in art making.

This course offers a unique blend of discussion and hands-on practice, providing a dynamic learning experience. The studio sessions feature personalised tuition alongside a series of concise presentations, creating an engaging environment for artistic growth.

Located in MAC’s Union St, Armadale studio, the studio-based art class for adults welcomes participants to experiment with a variety of mediums, you can bring your own preferred tools or use the materials provided.

Melbourne Art Class welcomes leading Australian contemporary abstract artist Samara Adamson-Pinczewski to conduct an Abstraction Studio Practice Short Course. This course builds on fundamentals covered in the introductory course, and is a great opportunity for students to progress their practice.

Our studio-based art class for Adults & an opportunity to develop your contemporary painting practice in this class with Sam Leach. In 2010, Leach famously won both Wynne and Archibald Prizes at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. His work has been extensively exhibited nationally and internationally.

Take a deep dive into the landscape and the classical techniques used by contemporary painter Sam Leach. He will lead you though the fundamentals of Grisaille, and demonstrate how artists such as Da Vinci, Titian, Vermeer and Rembrandt created such memorable work. A great course for beginners and those that are wanting to improve their painting.
