Children’s ‘African Animals’ Illustration & Watercolour Workshop
An illustration and watercolour watercolour with an ‘African Animals’ theme, designed for school children in grades 3 to 8 and taught by Amanda Weatherlake. Amanda is a Melbourne-based artist who specialises in watercolour wildlife illustration.
The workshop focuses on the development of key foundational techniques for illustration and watercolour. The children will be guided and supported whilst creating their own African animal characters. Suitable for all skill levels, this class is a good balance of the technical and creative.
Students will experiment with techniques that are discussed and demonstrated during class and will have the opportunity to use them in an artwork they create. Places will be limited to ensure Amanda can offer one-on-one tuition for each student.
Amanda Weatherlake is a practicing artist specialising in watercolour wildlife illustration. She is passionate about creating whimsical images, filled with colour and imaginative compositions. Amanda has Bachelor of Education (Primary) majoring in Visual Art. She has an extensive knowledge of implementing and teaching visual arts with primary school aged children and adults.

Artist and MAC teacher Camila Quintero will work with participants to set the foundation for a new way of seeing and drawing from life. Children will explore fundamental techniques and tools and refine their drawing skills. Students will be working from Still Life beginning with structural drawing, then moving to working with tone.
This is a specialised course in painting and drawing which focuses on the development of foundational techniques, combined with a mentoring style support for children and teens producing their own artwork. These classes are for students who are interested in creating outside of regular school hours and would like to further develop their artistic skills. We aim to nurture our students’ natural artistic ability and interests, whilst also teaching the fundamentals of art practice.
