This is a specialised course in painting and drawing for ages 8 to 10. It is an ongoing course which focuses on the development of foundational techniques for painting and drawing, combined with a mentoring style support for children producing their own artwork. Participants can work in the drawing or painting media of their choice. Teachers will also work with parents and guardians to find the right balance of technical/ creative for their child.

The course takes Melbourne Art Class’s focus on fundamental skills and creates a program suitable for the age group.

Teen's Japanese Ink Workshop

Award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa has been hosting continuously sold out workshops at Melbourne Art Class for over 4 years and we are thrilled for be able to offer these workshops for kids and teens from January 2022. Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds. There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also meditative practice.

Studio Art - Drawing and Painting classes Melbourne

This course is presented by experienced Artist and Teacher David Hamilton. David has a long teaching history at RMIT and Monash University and has had an impressive career as an artist for over 30 years. The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.

During this engaging half day workshop, artist and tutor Ilona Kiss will introduce teens to a diverse range of media, techniques and processes for making a street art inspired artwork. She will demonstrate the use of drawing, painting and collage in a mixed media context. Participants will be able to make unique artworks exploring creative processes whilst drawing inspiration from artists and illustrators.
