‘Australian Birds’ Illustration & Watercolour Half Day Workshop
An illustration and watercolour workshop with an ‘Australian Birds’ theme, designed for school children in Grades 3 to 5 and taught by Olivia York. Olivia is a Melbourne-based artist and illustrator who specialises in watercolour and Australiana illustration.
The workshop focuses on the development of key foundational techniques for illustration and watercolour. The children will be guided and supported whilst creating their own Australian Bird characters. Suitable for all skill levels, this class is a good balance of the technical and creative. Olivia strives to help build creative confidence and technical ability.
Students will experiment with techniques that are discussed and demonstrated during class and will have the opportunity to use them in an artwork they create. Places will be limited to ensure Olivia can offer one-on-one tuition for each student.
Olivia York is a Melbourne-based artist, illustrator and Australiana enthusiast. She creates witty and whimsical watercolour illustrations, inspired by our Australian flora and fauna. Her illustrations have so far adorned food trucks, feature walls, childrens books, clothing, packaging and homewares.
Her products have been featured in several tv shows, books and magazines including Better Homes and Gardens, Frankie magazine and Koala (Thames & Hudson). Olivia has collaborated with such brands as House, Lalaland, Nutella and Auspost.

The Melbourne Art Class team are excited to offer a digital illustration workshop with experienced digital artist and graphic designer Rachael Hammond. This is a digital illustration workshop with a 'Reptiles and Amphibians' theme, designed for school children in grades 5 to 7. During this workshop Rachael will guide students through the making of a digital illustrations of reptiles and amphibians.
The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.
Our Studio Art Courses are the foundation of Melbourne Art Class. In these classes you have the freedom to work on your own projects, or our Still Life display with guidance from an experienced teacher and professional artist. During the term, we sometimes have mini-lectures on a particular art movement, genre or technique. We welcome all skills levels, from complete beginners, to experienced artists who need a space and dedicated time to create.
