‘Australian Birds’ Illustration & Watercolour Half Day Workshop
This is an illustration and watercolour watercolour with an ‘Australian Birds’ theme, designed for school children in Grades 5 to 7 and taught by Olivia York, a Melbourne-based artist and illustrator who specialises in watercolour Australiana illustration.
The workshop focuses on the development of key foundational techniques for illustration and watercolour. The children will be supported whilst creating their own Australian Bird characters. Suitable for all skill levels, this class is a good balance of the technical and creative. Olivia strives to help build creative confidence, because every child is an artist!
Students will experiment with techniques that are discussed and demonstrated during class and will have the opportunity to use them in an artwork they create. Places will be limited to ensure Olivia can offer one-on-one tuition for each student.
Olivia York is a Melbourne-based artist, illustrator and Australiana enthusiast. She creates witty and whimsical watercolour illustrations, inspired by our Australian flora and fauna. Her illustrations have so far adorned food trucks, feature walls, childrens books, clothing, packaging and homewares.
Her products have been featured in several tv shows, books and magazines including Better Homes and Gardens, Frankie magazine and Koala (Thames & Hudson). Olivia has collaborated with such brands as House, Lalaland, Nutella and Auspost.

Camila Quintero will introduce participants to key acrylic painting techniques for painting from life with a focus on colour; colour mixing, tonal value and application. Children will then be encouraged to explore these techniques in creating their own acrylic painting.

The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.
Founder and Director of Melbourne Art Class, Marco Corsini will draw on his extensive experience of working with beginner artists to set the foundation for a new way of seeing and drawing from life. Teens will explore fundamental techniques and tools and refine their drawing skills with this extremely experienced tutor. Students will be working from Still Life beginning with Structural drawing, then moving to working with Tone.
