Award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa has been hosting sold out workshops at Melbourne Art Class for over 4 years and we are thrilled for be able to offer these workshops for children in 2022.

Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds.

There is also much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also meditative practice.

The experience of Sumi-e brings a sense of peace and harmony to the artist, and finished artworks are created to arouse the same sense of joy and tranquillity in the viewer.

During this workshop students will learn how to create traditional Japanese images and experiment with different brushstrokes using Japanese Ink.

All materials are provided, and workshop places are limited to ensure one-on-one tuition.

Junko is an award-winning artist. She has exhibited widely in Japan and Australia, and her work, Bamboo Grove and the dragonfly, is in the permanent collection at the National Gallery of Victoria.
