5-week Short Course

  • Dates: Mondays; 2-May, 9-May, 16-May, 23-May, 30-May, 2022
  • Time: 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm
  • Location: MAC ‘Elgin Studio’ – Level 1, 73 Burwood Road, Hawthorn
  • Course fee: $395 inc. GST

Melbourne Art Class welcomes one of Australia’s most extraordinary abstract artists – David Palliser – to conduct a course solely dedicated to abstract studio art practice.

This course introduces the key elements and techniques of abstraction and will help beginner students, and artists who would like to revisit the fundamentals.

A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in acrylics.

The course will explore the following:

  • Colour using collage and paint mixing
  • Positive and negative space as the starting point for an image
  • Intuition, gesture and risk

Classes sizes are limited to ensure one-on-one tuition.

David has had over twenty solo exhibitions and his work has been acquired by collections such as the Australian National Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank, and Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery.

David has participated in numerous exhibitions, including Imagine, Heide Museum of Modern Art, 2006 and Melbourne Now, National Gallery of Victoria, 2013. David has also attended residencies at Leipzig in 2015 and Berlin in 2016.

Melbourne Art Class welcomes award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa to host a three-hour Japanese ink advanced painting workshop. Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds.

Teacher and Director of Melbourne Art Class, Marco Corsini, will present a watercolour workshop. Students will be introduced to basic watercolour painting techniques such as colour mixing, laying washes, colour glazing and lifting out.
