Melbourne Art Class welcomes one of Australia’s most extraordinary abstract artists – David Palliser – to conduct a workshop series about working in abstraction.

The workshops will focus on the following:

  • Colour mixing and spatial qualities of colour,
  • Positive and negative space as the starting point for an image
  • Intuition, gesture and risk
  • Collage

David has had over twenty solo exhibitions and his work has been acquired by collections such as the Australian National Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank, and Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery. David has participated in numerous exhibitions, including Imagine, Heide Museum of Modern Art, 2006 and Melbourne Now, National Gallery of Victoria, 2013. David has also attended residencies at Leipzig in 2015 and Berlin in 2016.

Olivia will take students in school grades 3 to 6 through the fundamentals of sketching animals, watercolour painting and colours, before supporting students in creating an animal or bird character of their own. Students will work on facial expressions, gestures, fun props and even jaunty hats and accessories, to create characters unique to their own imagination. This holiday class is as Australian as a cockatoo snacking on fairy bread!

Combining mindfulness and art, this workshop uses mindful art practice for wellbeing. An illustration and watercolour workshop with a 'Sea Creatures' theme, designed for school children in grades 5 to 8 and taught by Amanda Weatherlake. Amanda is a Melbourne-based artist who specialises in watercolour wildlife illustration.
