June / July 2022 School Holiday Program and Workshops – now open for enrolment!

Our School Holiday Workshops vary each school holidays, giving children and teen’s a chance to try something new or deep dive into technique. Join us for our fun and engaging workshops with experienced artists and teachers guiding your creativity!

Half Day School Holiday Program for
Children in school Grades 3 to 7

Time: 8:45 am – 12:15 pm (3.5 hours)
Location: MAC Elgin Studio – Level 1, 73 Burwood Road, Hawthorn
Bring: A water bottle and snacks for recess break

 

Days can be booked individually, or multiple days. Each day will follow the schedule below:

  • 8:45 am – 9:00 am: Drop off at Elgin Studio
  • 9:00 am – 10:30 am: Workshop
  • 10:30 am – 11:00 am: Supervised break and play
  • 11:00 am – 12:15 pm: Studio Art
  • 12:15 pm – 12:30 pm: Pick up from Elgin Studio

 

Each day of the School Holiday Program will have a different medium and theme for children to explore:

  • Wednesday 29th June: Drawing with Camila Quintero
  • Thursday 30th June: Manga with Rina Kondakova {Sold out}
  • Tuesday 5th July: Australiana with Olivia York
  • Wednesday 6th July: Painting with Camila Quintero {Sold out}
  • Thursday 7th July: Animal Watercolour with Rachael Hammond

 

Pricing is $119 per child, per day. Booking for multiple days is priced as below:

  • 1 day: $119 per child
  • 2 days: $229 per child
  • 3 days: $329 per child
  • 4 days: $419 per child
  • 5 days: $499 per child (no longer available)

During this engaging workshop, artist and tutor Ilona Kiss will introduce children to a diverse range of media, techniques and processes for making a street art inspired artwork. She will demonstrate the use of drawing, painting and collage in a mixed media context. Participants will be able to make unique artworks exploring creative processes whilst drawing inspiration from artists and illustrators.

Artist and MAC teacher Camila Quintero will work with participants to set the foundation for a new way of seeing and drawing from life. Children will explore fundamental techniques and tools and refine their drawing skills. Students will be working from Still Life beginning with structural drawing, then moving to working with tone.

Manga

Children will explore Manga portraiture techniques with artist Rina Kondakova. Rina, who specialises in Manga style figurative art will guide children through the key elements of constructing a Manga image. Participants will also be introduced to key techniques used in the style and will be given an appreciation for the historical development of Manga.

This is a mixed media workshop in watercolour painting and collage. The course is taught by Olivia York, a Melbourne-based artist and illustrator who specialises in watercolour Australiana illustration. This workshop focuses on the development of key foundational techniques for watercolour and collage. The children will then be supported whilst creating their own Australian animal character in watercolour, wearing a collaged native flowercrown.

Camila Quintero will introduce participants to key acrylic painting techniques for painting from life. Children will then explore these techniques in creating their own acrylic painting. A one and half hour structured workshop introducing acrylic painting, step by step will be followed by a break. Then a further one and half hour studio art style session will continue, whereby children will be encouraged to explore the making of their own acrylic artwork.

Artist: Rachael Hammond

Rachael Hammond specialises in detailed illustrations of animals. During this workshop Rachael will guide students through the making of an illustration of an animal. She will demonstrate some of the techniques she uses in various media including watercolour and colour pencil.
