Teen’s Drawing Workshop

  • Date: Wednesday, 27 September 2023
  • Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm (3 hours)
  • Location: MAC Elgin Studio – Level 1, 73 Burwood Road, Hawthorn
  • Course fee: $109 inc. GST

This unique drawing workshop for Teens will be taught by artist and RMIT fine art lecturer, Saffron Newery.

Students will be introduced to drawing techniques that will be of great benefit to developing artists. With a focus on the perception of a three-dimensional world, training the brain to see. Teens will explore fundamental techniques and tools and refine drawing skills with this extremely experienced, highly regarded tutor.

Saffron currently lectures for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) at RMIT University and has been awarded a Ph.D in Fine Art. Saffron’s experience as a tutor and lecturer in art education spans 25 years. You can find out more about Saffron at Jan Manton Gallery or here.

Teen's Japanese Ink Workshop

Award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa has been hosting continuously sold out workshops at Melbourne Art Class for over 4 years and we are thrilled for be able to offer these workshops for kids and teens from January 2022. Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds. There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also meditative practice.

Olivia will take students in school grades 5 to 8 through the fundamentals of sketching animals, watercolour painting and colours, before supporting students in creating an animal or bird character of their own. Students will work on facial expressions, gestures, fun props and even jaunty hats and accessories, to create characters unique to their own imagination. This holiday class is as Australian as a magpie snacking on a footy pie!

An illustration and watercolour workshop with an 'Australian Birds' theme, designed for school children in Grades 3 to 5 and taught by Olivia York, a Melbourne-based artist and illustrator who specialises in watercolour and Australiana illustration. The workshop focuses on the development of key foundational techniques for illustration and watercolour.
