This is a stand-alone 2 hour workshop, which focuses on imparting an illustrator’s mindset of setting clear objectives, planning and implementation of the work using watercolour.

Suitable for all skill levels, this workshop is a good balance of technical and creative exploration. As a professional practicing artist and illustrator, Olivia strives to help build creative confidence and a sense of possibility in her students.

We maintain small class sizes to ensure Olivia can offer one-on-one tuition for each student.

Olivia York is a Melbourne-based artist, illustrator and Australiana enthusiast. She creates witty and whimsical watercolour illustrations, inspired by our Australian flora and fauna. Her illustrations have adorned food trucks, feature walls, children’s books, clothing, packaging and homewares.

Her products have been featured in several tv shows, books and magazines including Better Homes and Gardens, Frankie magazine and Koala (Thames & Hudson). Olivia has collaborated with such brands as House, Lalaland, Nutella and Auspost.

Teen's Japanese Ink Workshop

Award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa has been hosting continuously sold out workshops at Melbourne Art Class for over 4 years and we are thrilled for be able to offer these workshops for kids and teens from January 2022. Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds. There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also meditative practice.

This is a specialised course in painting and drawing which focuses on the development of foundational techniques, combined with a mentoring style support for children and teens producing their own artwork. These classes are for students who are interested in creating outside of regular school hours and would like to further develop their artistic skills. We aim to nurture our students’ natural artistic ability and interests, whilst also teaching the fundamentals of art practice.
