Studying the manner in which great artists of the past created their art can unlock key lessons for children. Therefore at MAC, we regularly look to these artists to learn aspects of making art.
Henri Matisse’s painting style is known for its bold use of colour, simplified forms, and expressive brushwork. He often used intense, non-naturalistic colours to convey emotion rather than depict reality. His work emphasises flatness and decorative composition, focusing on harmony and balance rather than depth or realism.
During this workshop, children will explore Matisse’s paintings and their use of colour and decorative composition. They will undertake an acrylic painting in the style of Matisse’s paintings, which usually results in bright and attractive paintings.
Participants will be given instruction in colour, composition and acrylic painting.
This workshop will be taught by experienced Artist and Teacher Camila Quintero. Camila Quintero (MA in Fine Arts from RMIT Australia, BA in Fine Arts from Universidad Nacional Colombia) specialises in painting and drawing.
