She has an MA in Fine Art from the Manchester Metropolitan University and is presented by Paper Gallery Manchester. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.

The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.

We welcome all skill levels in this class – from complete beginners, or focused artists pursuing a project. For beginners, Ilona will initially use a more structured approach that covers the fundamentals of drawing and painting.

The program is based on a school term and is open to students from secondary school age onwards.

*Basic materials are included in the course fee, however, ongoing students will be encouraged to put together a materials kit. Materials lists are available.

Award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa has been hosting continuously sold out workshops at Melbourne Art Class for over 4 years and we are thrilled for be able to offer these workshops for kids and teens from January 2022. Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds. There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also meditative practice.

Students will be introduced to basic watercolour painting techniques such as colour mixing, laying washes, colour glazing and lifting out, to set the foundation for watercolour painting. Ilona will also discuss the basic materials and equipment of watercolour such as a selection of basic colours in pans or tubes, brushes, watercolour papers, palettes and accessories.

Chloe, David Hamilton

David Hamilton specialises in a painting and drawing practice that uses tone to establish sensitive and evocative images. In this short course, David will introduce you to the fundamental principles of tone or value. He will also explain how tone can be used to for its expressive qualities. David will give brief introductions to the work of selected artists (past and contemporary) giving examples of tonal drawings as well as the technical approaches and methods employed.
