Observational drawing, in simple terms, means creating a visual representation of what you see in front of you or in reference images. It involves carefully observing a subject’s shape, form, texture, light, and shadow to create a true-to-life depiction.
Drawing from life is particularly challenging, as it demands capturing the ever-changing essence of the subject. Observational drawing serves as a foundational skill for artists, benefiting various drawing forms like figure drawing, still life, landscape, and portraiture. It enhances your observation skills, refines technical abilities, and deepens your understanding of form, light, and shadow. It’s a skill that improves with practice and patience, allowing you to create accurate and realistic representations.
Throughout this concise program, you’ll explore fundamental drawing elements, including line, tone, proportion, and value. Practical exercises will empower you to perceive and apply these elements in your artistic practice.
Our small class sizes ensure an individualised learning journey with one-on-one tuition.
