“Graeme is an excellent teacher. Encouraging, positive and very experienced. His attitude of ‘it’ll be OK in the end’ spoke volumes about his confidence and experience of life more broadly. His relaxed attitude to mixing colour – primary colours principally, along with a minimal supporting range of white, burnt umber etc. and very cautious use of black was a relief and revelation to me!
Graeme opened our eyes to a wide range of portraitist painters with a new range of books each week. His practical demonstrations of painting were enlightening but not overdone. It was our job to experiment and practice and that’s as it should be. A great painting course.
The two models were excellent. The familiarity of painting both over the four weeks gave some ‘retained experience/familiarity’ which may have been helpful as I grappled with mixing and applying colour. Graeme gave some some insight to the many possibilities. Enlightening for me.” – Ian, 2019
“It was a very enjoyable course. Graeme is a very positive teacher whilst gently suggesting ways you can improve the painting. His talent, knowledge and expertise is inspiring. He is also very friendly and encouraging. The studio is fabulous – light-filled.
The two models were very good. Graeme also brought in books on artists and suggested painters and painting styles. He did a demonstration and spoke about drawing, colour mixing etc. I found this very useful. I brought my own materials, but thought it was good that paints and brushes were readily available.” – Monica, 2019
“Graeme was relaxed, informative and helpful. Content was great. Having the live models was great… and indeed, was essential.” – Peter, 2019
“I highly recommend classes with Graeme – 10/10. I painted with oils for the first time ever. Love learning new skills. Graeme is able to create relaxed work environment. He is an excellent instructor, not afraid to address problems as well as solutions. Material supply was good. We all learned something new. Thank you All.” – Zdenka, 2018
