Studio-based Art Class for Adults
Level: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced For beginners – some experience such as an introductory painting course preferred.
Ages: This course is for adults. VCE students may be able to attend, please contact us to discuss.
This studio-based art class for adults combines personalised tuition for the development of your own portfolio along with a short group presentations from Saffron. These sessions will help participants develop better technical processes and deeper conceptual understandings of their painting practice. An opportunity to work with and be guided by a practicing artist and experienced painting lecturer on a weekly basis.
This course will be taught by experienced artist and teacher Saffron Newey. Saffron is a Melbourne based artist who has exhibited widely, both in Australia and internationally for over 25 years. Working predominantly in the fields of painting and drawing, Saffron has been a finalist in multiple painting prizes, including the John Leslie Art Prize and the Paddington Art Prize. In 2019, Saffron completed a Ph.D in Fine Art at RMIT, where she now lectures in the painting program.
Basic materials are included in the course fee, however, ongoing students will be encouraged to put together a materials kit. Materials lists are available.

The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.
We welcome all skill levels in this class – from complete beginners, or focused artists pursuing a project. For beginners, Marco will initially use a more structured approach that covers the fundamentals of drawing and painting.
