Students will be introduced to basic watercolour painting techniques such as colour mixing, laying washes, colour glazing and lifting out, to set the foundation for watercolour painting. Ilona will also discuss the basic materials and equipment of watercolour such as a selection of basic colours in pans or tubes, brushes, watercolour papers, palettes and accessories.

Award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa has been hosting continuously sold out workshops at Melbourne Art Class for over 4 years and we are thrilled for be able to offer these workshops for kids and teens from January 2022. Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds. There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also meditative practice.

Lovers of traditional Japanese art will be familiar with the red stamp or seal often seen on paintings or documents. This seal is used in place of a signature and forms an important part of traditional Japanese culture.

Join experienced artist and educator Marco Corsini as he introduces his favourite oil painting process, alla prima. Alla prima is a painting technique in which paint is applied on top of another layer of wet paint. These paintings are completed in one sitting. Participants will be working from Still life.
