These Courses are for Secondary school students who are interested in creating outside of regular school hours and would like to further develop their artistic skills. We aim to nurture our students’ natural artistic ability and interests, whilst also teaching the fundamentals of art practice.


MAC Glenferrie Studio, Hawthorn

A Flora and Fauna Illustration course by artist and illustrator, Olivia York, focusing on the application of gouache and watercolour. Learn how to build texture, mix colours, perfect proportion and create a composition, inspired by the natural world.

Watercolour and Gouache Illustration Short Course with Olivia York

30 May - 27 June, 2024 (5 sessions)

Thursdays, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm - Glenferrie Studio

Students will be introduced to basic gouache and watercolour illustration techniques including colour mixing, laying washes, colour glazing and lifting out, to set the foundation for watercolour painting. Olivia will also discuss the basic materials and equipment of watercolour such as a selection of basic colours in pans or tubes, brushes, watercolour papers, palettes and accessories.


18 April - 23 May, 2024 (5 sessions) (no class April 25) Thursdays, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm - Glenferrie Studio

This is an introduction to watercolour and gouache short course taught by Olivia York, a Melbourne-based artist and illustrator who specialises in watercolour illustration. Olivia will introduce students to key foundational techniques for using gouache and watercolour media. Olivia will offer personalised assistance informed by the participants individual illustration goals.
