A portraiture in watercolour and gouache intensive taught by Catalina Leichner, Argentinian artist and Art Conservator who specialises in watercolour illustration. Catalina will introduce students to key foundational techniques for using gouache and watercolour media.

A course that instructs in the fundamentals of painting. Artist and MAC founder Marco Corsini will introduce you to underpainting, composition, value (light and dark), colour and painting techniques.

Have you always wanted to join an art class, but never known where to begin? Join art conservator and artist Catalina Leichner and explore a range of art materials and techniques to gain a broad understanding of the different mediums you can use to create art.

Participants will learn key observational and rendering techniques for botanical art through drawing, watercolour, and gouache. By the end of the course, students will produce a series of studies and resolved botanical artworks.

This is a specialised course in painting and drawing for children in school grades 5 to 7. It is an ongoing course which focuses on the development of foundational techniques for painting and drawing, combined with a mentoring style support for children producing their own artwork.

Our Studio Art Courses are the foundation of Melbourne Art Class. In these classes you have the freedom to work on your own projects, or our Still Life display with guidance from an experienced teacher and professional artist. During the term, we sometimes have mini-lectures on a particular art movement, genre or technique. We welcome all skills levels, from complete beginners, to experienced artists who need a space and dedicated time to create.

A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity. We welcome all skill levels in this class – from complete beginners, or focused artists pursuing a project. For beginners, Marco will initially use a more structured approach that covers the fundamentals of drawing and painting.

Be introduced to some of the most powerful drawing techniques you will ever use. With a focus on the perception of a three-dimensional world, this intensive is designed to re-train your brain to see. Founder and Director of Melbourne Art Class, Marco Corsini will draw on his extensive experience of working with beginner artists to set the foundation for a new way of seeing and drawing from life.

Take a deep dive into landscape and portraiture using classical techniques by contemporary painter Saffron Newey. She will lead you though the fundamentals of Grisaille, and demonstrate how artists such as Da Vinci, Titian, Vermeer and Rembrandt created such memorable work. A great course for beginners and those that are wanting to improve their painting.

Melbourne Art Class welcomes leading Australian contemporary abstract artist Samara Adamson-Pinczewski to conduct an introductory course solely dedicated to abstract art practice. This course introduces the key elements and techniques of abstraction as well as providing historical context.

This introductory Life Drawing short course will focus on the fundamentals of life drawing. Every session is conducted with a life model (undressed). You will be introduced to various strategies and techniques for drawing the figure. This course will assist a beginner and intermediate artists in developing fundamental drawing techniques.

Under the guidance of artist and art conservator Catalina Leichner, students will develop their observational drawing skills while exploring natural landscapes, learning to create depth, movement, and atmosphere. The course balances expressive mark-making with refined details such as trees, rocks, and other natural elements.

Leading Australian contemporary abstract artist Samara Adamson-Pinczewski will present this specialist abstraction short course, focusing upon the Colour Field painting movement. This studio based courses will allow participant to explore and develop their own abstract practice as it relates to the work of Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Stella and to Samara's own work.
