In this short course led by your experienced teacher Michelle Zuccolo, you will explore the essential elements of drawing — line, tone, proportion, and value — through hands-on exercises designed to sharpen how you see and translate the world around you.

The course centres on observational drawing, using still life as your subject. Observational drawing is a foundational skill that underpins nearly every drawing discipline, from figure drawing and portraiture to landscape work. Beyond technique, it trains your eye, deepens your understanding of form, light, and shadow, and builds the patience and precision needed to create accurate, realistic work. This course will teach you the foundations of drawing which will enable you to see improvements over time with consistent practice.

About Michelle

This Discover Drawing Workshop course will be taught by experienced artist and teacher Michelle Zuccolo. Michelle is a winner of the prestigious Rick Amor Self Portrait Prize. She has also been a finalist in the British Portrait Award, London, Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, Portia Geach Memorial Award, 2020 Hurford Hardwood Portrait Prize and Bayside Acquisitive Art Prize. Her drawings have been included in the Rick Amor Drawing Award, the 7^th Drawing Biennale, Drill Hall, ANU, Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing and Mornington Peninsula Spring Drawing Festivals.

Michelle has a MA (Visual Arts) from the University of Ballarat, a BA (Fine Art) from Victoria College of Art and Design and a DipEd from Melbourne College of Advanced Education. Michelle has over twenty-five years teaching experience at various levels of education including secondary schooling, tertiary levels and in community art programs.
