Our Studio Art Courses are the foundation of Melbourne Art Class. In these classes you have the freedom to work on your own projects, or our Still Life display with guidance from an experienced teacher and professional artist. During the term, we sometimes have mini-lectures on a particular art movement, genre or technique. We welcome all skills levels, from complete beginners, to experienced artists who need a space and dedicated time to create.

The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.
We welcome all skill levels in this class – from complete beginners, or focused artists pursuing a project. For beginners, Marco will initially use a more structured approach that covers the fundamentals of drawing and painting.

Take a deep dive into landscape and portraiture using classical techniques by contemporary painter Saffron Newey. She will lead you though the fundamentals of Grisaille, and demonstrate how artists such as Da Vinci, Titian, Vermeer and Rembrandt created such memorable work. A great course for beginners and those that are wanting to improve their painting.

Melbourne Art Class welcomes award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa to host a three hour Hanko Seal Carving workshop. Lovers of traditional Japanese art will be familiar with the red stamp or seal often seen on paintings or documents. This seal is used in place of a signature and forms an important part of traditional Japanese culture.

This is an introduction to watercolour and gouache intensive taught by Catalina Leichner, Argentinian artist and Art Conservator who specialises in watercolour illustration. Catalina will introduce students to key foundational techniques for using gouache and watercolour media. Catalina will offer personalised assistance informed by the participants individual illustration goals.

This studio based courses will allow participant to explore and develop their own abstract practice as it relates to the work of Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Stella and to Samara's own work.
