Sam Leach is an Australian contemporary artist born in Adelaide, South Australia and now residing in Melbourne, Victoria. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting), Honours Fine Art (Painting), Master of Arts (Fine Arts) and Doctor of Philosophy (Fine Arts) from RMIT University. Sam’s works are informed by art history, science, and philosophy.
In 2010, Sam became only the third artist ever (following after William Dobell and Brett Whiteley) to win one of Australia’s most noteworthy art prizes, the Archibald Prize, for his portrait of musical comedian Tim Minchin and the Wynne Prize for his landscape Proposal for landscaped cosmos, in the same year.
