An introduction to drawing and painting, artist Ilona Kiss will present this class to establish and explore the fundamentals of drawing and painting by working from Still Life. Students are encouraged to develop basic drawing skills, and to be introduced to painting.


Introduction to Drawing the Portrait Short Course with Marta Gola

In this short course, students will be introduced to the process of drawing the portrait including drawing fundamentals, structural approach to drawing the head, understanding the form of the face, eyes, nose, mouth and ears, and more. If you are interested in portraiture, this course should help get you started.


Introduction to Painting Short Course with David Hamilton

This course is designed for people who are looking to learn the fundamentals of painting. Over five weeks, artist and teacher David Hamilton will introduce you to: Underpainting, Composition, Value (light and dark), Application of paint, Tonal painting.


Introduction to Life Drawing Short Course with David Hamilton (Age 18+)

This Introduction to Life Drawing short course will focus on the fundamentals of life drawing. Every session is conducted with a life model (undressed). You will be introduced to various strategies and techniques for drawing the figure. This course will assist beginner and intermediate artists in developing fundamental life drawing techniques.


StART: Creative Spark – Art Therapy Course with Jaana Sahling

Getting started with art making can be hard and often we can get stuck along the way. During this course participants are able to deeply engage with their personal art making process and explore ways to get into the creative flow and untangle from a creative block.


Studio Art (Drawing and Painting) Courses

Our Studio Art Courses are the foundation of Melbourne Art Class. In these classes you have the freedom to work on your own projects, or our Still Life display with guidance from an experienced teacher and professional artist. 


Japanese Ink Painting (sumi-e) Workshop with Junko Azukawa

Join Junko, an award-winning shodo and sumi-e artist over three hours. She has exhibited widely in Japan and Australia, and her work, Bamboo Grove and the dragonfly, is in the permanent collection at the National Gallery of Victoria.


Japanese Ink Painting (sumi-e) Short Course with Junko Azukawa

Award-winning Japanese Ink (sumi-e) artist and teacher, Junko Azukawa, will guide you through painting four traditional images that contain the basic strokes that every sumi-e artist masters: The Four Gentlemen.

Creating Calm – Art Therapy Course with Jaana Sahling

Art making for wellbeing and slowing down. In this course participants get to take a break from the daily rush to reflect and wind down. We use creative processes and art making to focus on the here and now and to get out of the thinking brain and into a more tactile making experience.
