This studio based courses will allow participant to explore and develop their own abstract practice as it relates to the work of Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Stella and to Samara's own work.

Abstraction Short Course in Colour Field Painting

Level: Beginner / Intermediate 
Ages: This course is designed for adults
(Art students aged 15 – 17 may be able to attend, please contact to discuss suitability)

  • Time: 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm (2.5 hours)
  • Location: MAC Union Studio  | Level 1, 85 Union Street, Armadale

Leading Australian contemporary abstract artist Samara Adamson-Pinczewski will present this specialist abstraction short course, focusing upon the Colour Field painting movement.

Looking extensively at the elements and techniques of colour field abstraction, as they relate to both Samara’s own work and to that of Helen Frankenthaler and Frank Stella. Samara will provide a historical and theoretical context for Colour Field painting as you progress through the sessions.

This Abstraction short course will focus on the following elements of Colour Field painting:

    • An emphasis on colour as subject
    • Flatness and surface uniformity
    • Elimination of figuration and narrative
    • Emphasis on optical and emotional experience
    • Alternative application methods and reduction of gesture

This is a studio based practice course and a wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in acrylics.

Classes sizes are limited to ensure one-on-one tuition.

Samara Adamson-Pinczewski abstract work has featured in more than 90 exhibitions and she has participated in several international residencies. Her work can be found in major private and public collections throughout Australia. Adamson-Pinczewski is represented by Charles Nodrum gallery. Her paintings and sculptures explore the experience of architecture and urban space.
