Melbourne Art Class students* can access the Melbourne Art Class studio and resources for a supervised but untutored session in the studio. This class is a great option for students who want to finish a piece of work from their course, those who have missed a session during the term looking for some time to catch up, or just those looking for more studio time.

During Open Studio time, Melbourne Art Class students* can access the Melbourne Art Class studio and resources for a supervised but untutored session in the studio.

This class is a great option for students who want to finish a piece of work from their course, those who have missed a session during the term looking for some time to catch up, or just those looking for more studio time.

 

Sessions will be held separately for different age groups, and all sessions will have a Melbourne Art Class representative present.

  • Adults Open Studio – ages 18 +
    • Union Studio, Armadale: Tuesday 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm during term
    • Union Studio, Armadale: Thursday 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm during term
    • Elgin Studio, Hawthorn: Friday 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm during term

 

  • Teen’s Open Studio – School Grades 8 to 12 (TBA)

 

Important:

  • Students will have access to similar resources as what you would access during your regular class or workshop.
  • Limit of 1 canvas per session, additional canvases can be purchased at a discounted rate at the studio, based on availability.
  • Students will be required to clean all equipment and materials used at the end of their session.
  • No tuition will be provided during these sessions, if you are looking for tutored guidance, we suggest enroling in one of our relevant courses.

The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.

Melbourne Art Class welcomes leading Australian contemporary abstract artist Samara Adamson-Pinczewski to conduct an introductory course solely dedicated to abstract art practice. This course introduces the key elements and techniques of abstraction and will help beginner students, and artists who would like to revisit the fundamentals.

Take a deep dive into the landscape and the classical techniques used by contemporary painter Saffron Newey. She will lead you though the fundamentals of Grisaille, and demonstrate how artists such as Da Vinci, Titian, Vermeer and Rembrandt created such memorable work. A great course for beginners and those that are wanting to improve their painting.
