Sam Leach Masterclass: Finches, Grisaille and Colour

Join one of Australia’s most respected and awarded contemporary artists so as to be guided through the same process he himself uses to create his paintings. This workshop is designed to give access to the techniques Sam Leach uses in his practice. As a recipient of both the Archibald Prize and Wynne Prize, Sam has a long established reputation in the visual arts industry. As an experiences  professional contemporary painter Sam will lead you through a process of painting a finch which is a common motif that appears in his own work. Participants will undertake two different panels using two methods of painting. The first will be a Van Dyke Brown grisaille and the second will be an approach using a colour base. Sam will demonstrate the full process with students able work alongside.

This workshop offers a unique blend of demonstration and hands-on practice, providing a dynamic learning experience. Located in MAC’s Union St, Armadale studio, the studio-based art class for adults welcomes participants to this beautiful space for a one off unique experience with a this highly respected artist.

Materials are supplied. Students will receive complementary specialised brushes to take with them, for the techniques they will be shown.
