Studio-based Art Class for Adults

Level: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced
Ages: This course is for adults.
VCE students may be able to attend, please contact us to discuss.

This course will be taught by experienced artist and teacher Saffron Newey. Saffron is a Melbourne based artist who has exhibited widely, both in Australia and internationally for over 25 years. Working predominantly in the fields of painting and drawing, Saffron has been a finalist in multiple painting prizes for, including the John Leslie Art Prize and the Paddington Art Prize. In 2019, Saffron completed a Ph.D in Fine Art at RMIT, where she now lectures in the painting program.

The program is a studio-based art class for adults, that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.

We welcome all skill levels in this class – from complete beginners, or focused artists pursuing a project.

The studio-based art class for adults is based on a school term and is also open to students from secondary school age onwards.

*Basic materials are included in the course fee, however, ongoing students will be encouraged to put together a materials kit. Materials lists are available.

Students will create several works experimenting with techniques that are discussed and demonstrated during class and will also be invited to create compositions inspired by landscape, foliage, animals, abstract ideas, or patterns, in a relaxed and collaborative environment.

The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity. We welcome all skill levels in this class – from complete beginners, or focused artists pursuing a project. For beginners, Marco will initially use a more structured approach that covers the fundamentals of drawing and painting.
