Saffron Newey unveils the time-honoured secrets behind classical underpainting and glazing techniques. In this comprehensive course, you’ll master the art of shaping form, light, and shadow using the classic grisaille method and then progress to the use of glazing to achieve vibrant, luminous colours.

As this is an 8 week course, you will be concentrating on Landscape and Portraiture. Students are encouraged to bring in a landscape and Portrait photograph to work from. Or we can print out your digital image in class.

Saffron Newey is a Melbourne based artist who has exhibited widely, both in Australia and internationally for over 25 years. Working predominantly in the fields of painting and drawing, Saffron has been a finalist in multiple painting prizes for, including the John Leslie Art Prize and the Paddington Art Prize. In 2019, Saffron completed a Ph.D in Fine Art at RMIT, where she now lectures in the painting program.
