Botanical Drawing with Watercolour
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
Ages: This workshop is suitable for children in school grades 5-8
Children will be introduced to a greater awareness of nature and the artist’s need to observe carefully so as to gain a greater understanding of the physical characteristics of plants with precision. Botanical drawing focuses on accuracy—every leaf, petal, stem, and vein must be observed closely and recorded truthfully. At the same time, botanical drawing also appeals to artists and nature lovers for its quiet beauty and meditative process.
This workshop is taught by Catalina Leichner, artist and art conservator and restorer. Catalina has particularly strong scientific and process-oriented training, which allows her to communicate watercolour painting in this more specific scientific context.
Catalina Leichner is an Argentinian artist from Buenos Aires who specialises in watercolour and oil painting. She holds a Bachelor in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage – UMSA (University of the Argentinian Social Museum). Catalina has worked as a restorer and conservator for National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aries for the past 7 years and has also run regular watercolour workshops.
