Drawing and Painting Botanical Art with Anna Parry
Level: Beginner to Intermediate (some drawing or painting experience is desirable)

5 Week Course
An introduction to the observational, technical, and compositional skills required for botanical art. Using a range of drawing media, watercolour and gouache, participants will investigate plant structures through drawing and painting processes. Anna will support participants in understanding proportions, tone, colour mixing, and rendering techniques appropriate to botanical subjects with an emphasis on working from life.
Historical and contemporary approaches to botanical illustration will be referenced to contextualise botanical art practice. By the end of the course, students will produce a series of studies and resolved botanical artworks.
About Anna
Anna is an experienced art educator, having worked in both Primary and Secondary schools. She holds a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art and a Graduate Diploma of Education as well as a Master’s of Fine Art. She is a practising artist specialising in botanical watercolour painting and has been represented in exhibitions such as The Art of Botanical Illustration at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne. Anna also works as a freelance artist and illustrator and has been awarded several prizes and scholarships, including the Galloway Lawson Acquisitive Prize for Painting.

This is an introduction to watercolour and gouache intensive taught by Catalina Leichner, Argentinian artist and Art Conservator who specialises in watercolour illustration. Catalina will introduce students to key foundational techniques for using gouache and watercolour media. Catalina will offer personalised assistance informed by the participants individual illustration goals.

The workshop will introduce participants to key techniques for gouache and watercolour media. As an experienced watercolour teacher, Catalina will lead participants through a series of exercises giving the opportunity to explore ways in which an artist creates an artwork.
