5 Week Course:
Throughout this Introduction to Drawing Short Course you’ll explore essential drawing elements, including line, tone, proportion, and value. Practical exercises will empower you to perceive and apply these elements in your artistic practice.
You will be working from observation of Still life using observational drawing techniques. Observational drawing serves as a foundational skill for artists, benefiting various drawing forms like figure drawing, still life, landscape, and portraiture. It enhances your observation skills, refines technical abilities, and deepens your understanding of form, light, and shadow. It’s a skill that improves with practice and patience, allowing you to create accurate and realistic representations.

Saffron Newey is a Melbourne based artist who has exhibited widely, both in Australia and internationally for over 25 years. Working predominantly in the fields of painting and drawing, Saffron has been a finalist in multiple painting prizes for, including the John Leslie Art Prize and the Paddington Art Prize. In 2019, Saffron completed a Ph.D in Fine Art at RMIT, where she now lectures in the painting program.
