Watercolour Painting Portraiture Workshop
Level: Beginner/Intermediate/All levels
Ages: This workshop is for school Grades 7-10
A workshop that will help teens understand how to represent the structure of the face as well as how watercolour processes can be used for portraiture painting.
Watercolour in portrait painting allows for delicate transitions in skin tone, shadows, and expressive washes that can enhance mood and express personality. The transparency of watercolour makes it ideal for building up colour gradually, revealing the structure of the face in a gentle, luminous way.
Because watercolour dries quickly and reacts to the amount of water used, it often encourages a looser, more intuitive style. This can result in portraits that feel lively, spontaneous, and emotionally resonant.
Artist, Catalina Leichner frequently uses watercolour for portraiture and will share of her experience in the use of this medium in representing the face.
Catalina Leichner is an Argentinian artist from Buenos Aires who specialises in watercolour and oil painting. She holds a Bachelor in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage – UMSA (University of the Argentinian Social Museum). Catalina has worked as a restorer and conservator for National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aries for the past 7 years and has also run regular watercolour workshops.
