A Flora and Fauna Illustration course by artist and illustrator, Olivia York, focusing on the application of gouache and watercolour.
Learn how to build texture, mix colours, perfect proportion and create a composition, inspired by the natural world. Learn tips and tricks for sketching and painting animals and flowers, with a particular focus on Australian wildlife and plants.
Small classes mean this course can be led by the individual interests and goals of its students and Olivia will offer personalised assistance informed by the participants individual goals. Olivia aims to build confidence and help students find their own illustration style. Students will experiment with techniques that are discussed and demonstrated during class and students will have the opportunity to apply them to the artwork they create.
We welcome all skills levels, from complete beginners, to experienced artists who need a space and dedicated time to create. We maintain small class sizes to ensure Olivia can offer one-on-one tuition for each student.
Olivia York is a Melbourne-based artist, illustrator and Australiana enthusiast. She creates witty and whimsical watercolour illustrations, inspired by our Australian flora and fauna. She has produced illustrations for a range of applications, including children’s books, food trucks, homewares, clothing and most recently a mural.
Her products have been featured in several tv shows, books and magazines including Better Homes and Gardens, Frankie magazine and Koala (Thames & Hudson). Olivia has collaborated with such brands as House, Lalaland, Nutella and Auspost.

Melbourne Art Class welcomes leading Australian contemporary abstract artist Samara Adamson-Pinczewski to conduct an introductory course solely dedicated to abstract art practice. This course introduces the key elements and techniques of abstraction and will help beginner students, and artists who would like to revisit the fundamentals.

Our Studio Art Courses are the foundation of Melbourne Art Class. In these classes you have the freedom to work on your own projects, or our Still Life display with guidance from an experienced teacher and professional artist. During the term, we sometimes have mini-lectures on a particular art movement, genre or technique. We welcome all skills levels, from complete beginners, to experienced artists who need a space and dedicated time to create.

Fridays 9:30am – 12:30 pm (3hrs) - Union Studio
Learn Drawing Fundamentals. Each week David will lead the class through a drawing experience. Participants will work observationally from life in various context and settings; from studio based work to street drawing. Designed as a rolling program, participants will journey with David as their guide, trying a range of drawing techniques and materials.
