He will introduce significant historical drawings and their techniques which are demonstrated while you follow along in your home studio. Award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa has been hosting continuously sold out workshops at Melbourne Art Class for over 4 years and we are thrilled for be able to offer these workshops for kids and teens from January 2022. Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds. There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also meditative practice.

Lovers of traditional Japanese art will be familiar with the red stamp or seal often seen on paintings or documents. This seal is used in place of a signature and forms an important part of traditional Japanese culture.
