In this Creative Mindfulness Art Therapy course participants get to take a break from the daily rush to reflect and wind down. Through gently exploring different creative mindfulness exercises and trying different art materials we playfully engage with how we are feeling and what might help us to take care of ourselves in our day to day lives. We use creative processes and art making to focus on the here and now and to get out of the thinking brain and into a more tactile making experience.

Students who have attended previous Art Therapy courses with Jaana are welcome to attend again with fresh content and exercises.

NDIS participants may be able to participate in this course as part of their NDIS plan. Please discuss this with your NDIS contact, note that course pre-payment is required.

 

About Art Therapy: Art therapy is for self-exploration, as no-one else can interpret your artwork; only you know what you think and feel and express through the art. Art Therapy is for creative and personal expression, well suited to anyone who wants to slow down and connect with their inner self, with others and with their surroundings. No creative ability is required for Art Therapy, and you do not require any prior art making knowledge or experience.

About ‘Creative Mindfulness’: In this course participants get to take a break from the daily rush to reflect and wind down.

Through gently exploring different creative mindfulness exercises and trying different art materials we playfully engage with how we are feeling and what might help us to take care of ourselves in our day to day lives. We use creative processes and art making to focus on the here and now and to get out of the thinking brain and into a more tactile making experience. This course offers a safe space for you to relax, inquire, slow down, take time for yourself, nurture your creativity, and play.

Classes places are limited to ensure one-on-one guidance.

Jaana Sahling is a specialist in the creative process and holds an MA in Experiential and Creative Arts Therapy (MIECAT) and a BA in Fine Arts (Nottingham Trent).

This course is not for learning new techniques so if you are looking for art instructional courses, please see our current courses for a more appropriate class

Tuesdays, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm - Union Studio

The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. Suitable for high school students who are interested in creating outside of regular school hours and would like to further develop their artistic skills. We aim to nurture our students’ natural artistic ability and interests, whilst also teaching the fundamentals of art practice.

This is an introduction to illustration and mixed media short course taught by Olivia York, a Melbourne-based artist and illustrator who specialises in watercolour illustration. Over 7 weeks Olivia will introduce students to key foundational techniques for illustration using gouache and watercolour media. Olivia will offer personalised assistance informed by the participants individual illustration goals.

Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds. Melbourne Art Class welcomes award-winning sumi-e artist, Junko Azukawa to host a three-hour Japanese ink painting workshop.
