This course is presented by artist Sam Leach, winner of the Archibald Prize and Wynne prize.
The program is a studio-based class that mixes personalised tuition with a program of short presentations. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in both oils and acrylics. It would be suitable for anyone who is interested in a class that develops observational skills and fundamental artistic skills while maintaining a degree of flexibility for creativity.
We welcome all skill levels in this class – from complete beginners, or focused artists pursuing a project. For beginners, Ilona will initially use a more structured approach that covers the fundamentals of drawing and painting.
The program is based on a school term and is open to students from secondary school age onwards.

*Basic materials are included in the course fee, however, ongoing students will be encouraged to put together a materials kit. Materials lists are available.

TERM 2, 2023 enrolments are open!
Term 2 classes will run from Wednesday 26th April – Thursday 22nd June 2023.
There will be no classes on Friday 28th April or Monday 12th June.
Students looking for more time in the studio may also wish to enrol in the consecutive Thursday Evening class from 6:30 – 9:00 pm.
TERM 3 2023 will open for booking in late June.

Award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa has been hosting continuously sold out workshops at Melbourne Art Class for over 4 years and we are thrilled for be able to offer these workshops for kids and teens from January 2022. Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds.

An illustration and watercolour watercolour with an 'African Animals' theme, designed for school children in grades 3 to 5 and taught by Amanda Weatherlake, a Melbourne-based artist who specialises in watercolour wildlife illustration. The workshop focuses on the development of key foundational techniques for illustration and watercolour. The children will be guided and supported whilst creating their own African Animal characters. Suitable for all skill levels, this class is a good balance of the technical and creative.
