This course is designed for people who are looking to learn the fundamentals of painting. No experience is required, however if you are considering doing an Introduction to Observational Drawing course as well, we recommend completing the Observational Drawing course first.

Over the course, artist David Hamilton will introduce you to:

  • Underpainting
  • Composition
  • Value (light and dark)
  • Application of paint
  • Tonal painting

This course works with oil paints and all materials are provided. Places are limited to ensure one-on-one tuition.

This course will be taught by experienced Artist and Teacher David Hamilton. David has a wealth of experience to share with Melbourne Art Class students. David has a long teaching history at RMIT and Monash University and has had an impressive career as an artist for over 30 years. David’s courses at Melbourne Art Class are always well received, students enjoy David’s calm nature and willingness to share his knowledge.
