This workshop is designed to give you access the acclaimed artist, Sam Leach's experience as a professional contemporary painter by following with him through a process of painting a finch which is a common motif that appears in Sam's work.

Be introduced to some fundamental drawing and illustration techniques and follow Camila Quintero's drawing process as it relates to her own art practice.

During this one-day intensive workshop, artist Lucy Maddox will present you with the basic tools for drawing from direct observation of Still life. Using classical skills, you will learn how to accurately and convincingly capture what you see using a variety of dry drawing media.

Presented by Catalina Leichner, an artist, art conservator and restorer, who is knowledgeable in the technical and historical aspects of colour. Spend an afternoon exploring colour theory, mixing, and composition through guided practical exercises.

Learn how to approach painting the figure using only alla prima or wet-on-wet techniques. "Alla prima," meaning "at the first [attempt]," is a painting style that is quick and loose, lending itself to expressive and impactful paintings.

Have you always wanted to join an art class, but never known where to begin? Join art conservator and artist Catalina Leichner and explore a range of art materials and techniques to gain a broad understanding of the different mediums you can use to create art.

This is a specialised course in painting and drawing which focuses on the development of foundational techniques, combined with a mentoring style support for children and teens producing their own artwork. These classes are for students who are interested in creating outside of regular school hours and would like to further develop their artistic skills. We aim to nurture our students’ natural artistic ability and interests, whilst also teaching the fundamentals of art practice.

Melbourne Art Class welcomes leading Australian contemporary abstract artist Samara Adamson-Pinczewski to conduct an Abstraction Studio Practice Short Course. This course builds on fundamentals covered in the introductory course, and is a great opportunity for students to progress their practice.

This course is designed for people who are looking to learn the fundamentals of painting. Over the course, artist and teacher David Hamilton will introduce you to: Underpainting, Composition, Value (light and dark), Application of paint, Tonal painting.

Portraiture Drawing with Michelle Zuccolo short course will focus on the fundamentals of portraiture drawing through cast drawing and drawing from a portraiture life model. You will be introduced to various strategies and techniques for drawing the face by an award-winning portraiture artist. This course will assist beginner and intermediate artists in developing fundamental drawing techniques. 

During this workshop, artist Rina Kondakova will introduce students to the history of Manga, its techniques and fundamental elements. You’ll learn how to develop your own original Manga characters and gain confidence in your drawing practice.

Drawing the Figure and the Face short course will focus on the fundamentals of drawing through cast drawing and life drawing. You will be introduced to various strategies and techniques for drawing the figure and the face. This course will assist beginner and intermediate artists in developing fundamental drawing techniques.

In this course, participants will engage in various intuitive and expressive art-making activities, each aimed at unlocking creativity and fostering personal growth.

Artist David Hamilton will guide participants in developing their painting practices, develop a theoretical understanding of their painting and enhance their unique voice.

A watercolour workshop about sea animals, designed for school children in Grades 3 to 6 and taught by Catalina Leichner. Catalina is an Argentinian artist from Buenos Aires who specialises in watercolour and oil painting. 

This workshop guides teens through the fundamentals of facial structure and how to represent the face using watercolour. They'll explore how watercolour’s unique qualities, such as delicate tonal transitions, shadows, and expressive washes, can enhance mood and bring portraits to life with softness and luminosity.

An Around the World Workshop to Antarctica! Join us for a fun and creative art workshop as we explore the icy landscapes of Antarctica! Students will use watercolour and mixed media techniques to bring their artworks to life, fostering creativity while celebrating nature and global diversity.

Melbourne Art Class welcomes award-winning sumi-e (Japanese Ink) artist, Junko Azukawa to host a three hour Hanko Seal Carving workshop. Lovers of traditional Japanese art will be familiar with the red stamp or seal often seen on paintings or documents. This seal is used in place of a signature and forms an important part of traditional Japanese culture. 

This unique drawing masterclass for young teens will be taught by teacher Camila Quintero. A great opportunity for Young teens to be introduced to effective observational drawing techniques with a focus on the perception of a three-dimensional world.

Manga is comics or graphic novels originating from Japan. The most common styles of Manga have become extremely popular among audiences all over the world and we see many children and teens experimenting with this style of art.

Learn Drawing Fundamentals
This course combines both formal and informal approaches to drawing. Each week, Saffron will guide the class through a unique drawing experience. Participants will work observationally from life in various contexts and settings, including studio-based work and street drawing. The course will emphasise drawing as both a skill and a tool for self-expression, helping participants discover and develop their personal style. Designed as a rolling program, participants will journey with Saffron as their guide, exploring a range of drawing techniques and materials.

Reflect and Renew – One Day Art Therapy Workshop

This workshop blends creative arts therapy with mindful art-making, offering a space for self-discovery and personal insight. Through a gentle and intuitive process, you will gather, arrange, and reassemble images to create a Soul Collage—a deeply personal artwork that reflects your inner world.

In this workshop, children will create vibrant landscapes using pastels to blend sweeping skies, rolling hills, and glowing sunsets, while also defining sharp details like trees, rocks, or buildings.

Students will develop a deeper appreciation for nature through the careful observation and accurate depiction of plants. Botanical drawing encourages precision and attention to detail, while also offering a calming, meditative creative process.

Presented by experienced professional art therapist Jaana Sahling, this course will introduce participants to Creative Art Therapy. The focus will be on experiential practice, going through guided exercises to reflect on how we are feeling right now and to examine how we want to be in the world going forward.
